Libary Programs

Walking M Farms brings reading to life!

This is an opportunity to have one of our popular live animal programs in your library. If you want to attract more visitors to your library summer program or want to encourage more children to the library, animals are a great way to help the children in discovering how fun the local libraries can be.

Reading empowers children and a wonderful way to allow your child to build his/her imagination and develop skills that will help in the future. Libraries are a great place to introduce the children to reading a variety of books.

Children’s are programmed to love animals. Examples of them are seen in mostly all children’s literature. Animals are generally seen in all children’s books either as the main character or as a companion to one. Libraries and schools can promote reading by creating petting zoos where the children can get attracted to the real life counterparts of their favorite characters from the books. Walking M Farms is a service which is here to help you decide the activities that are suitable to your libraries needs and budget.

Animal Tutoring

Encourage children to read by providing a non-judgmental listener and furry or feathered friend to read to that won’t laugh at them if they make a mistake or stumble over a word, but rather lie or sit next to them and enjoy the story being read to them. The children learn to associate reading with being with one of our animals, and begin to view reading in a positive way. Over time, the child’s reading ability and confidence can improve because they are practicing their skills, which will make them enjoy reading even more.

Libraries have had great success by utilizing "Animal Tutoring" as part of their Summer Reading Program or After-school Program. While the program was initially developed for struggling readers, even those who can already read well don’t want to pass up the chance to read to an animal. Even the parents seem to get a real kick out of their child reading to a animal, and they certainly welcome the idea of their son or daughter being so excited to go to the library on a Saturday!

This is an opportunity for children of all ages to see and touch a variety of small, lovable, and gentle farm animals.

Kind Kids Story Time
Join us for a special story time that emphasizes the importance of being kind to all animals.  Meet live farm animals and practice being kind.

The nation wide celebration of Llama, Llama, Red Pajama was a huge success. Many local libraries opted to bring their event to life with Walking M Farms, by inviting live animals to attend the readings. This is a great example of the many opportunities petting zoo animals create for libraries to attract crowds, and promote childhood literacy.

However, you don’t need a special literary theme to celebrate animals in children’s literature. Literary animal heroes are everywhere, and their real life counterparts make a fun, educational, memorable addition to any library event!
